What is AVID? An Overview

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, helping students achieve goals through their own efforts.

What It Is

AVID is a program to support students who possess the individual determination to be successful. AVID teaches students how to make their education count and how to make their college and career dreams a reality. AVID is designed for students in the academic middle.
Why it is Important

AVID focuses on helping students become college and career ready. Many students struggle to connect what they are learning in school to their future career, and many do not believe they will ever have the opportunity or potential to attend college. AVID helps break down barriers for students by teaching skills and strategies for success.

How it Helps Students

AVID teaches organizational skills to students who might lack them and it creates an atmosphere of accountability with other students so they can accomplish more work. It also provides a support network so they are more connected to their peers and have help to do their work..
