AD's Message

Welcome to another year of Stayton High School athletics! We are excited to get things rolling both with athletics and academics here at Stayton High school. Whether we are talking about the classroom, the field, the court, or a wrestling mat, we have great kids who excel. I know we are all excited to see them in action as we begin the 2023-24 school year.

Fall Sports are a busy time of year. With football, volleyball, cross country, cheer, and both soccer teams in action, lots and lots of our kids are competing this fall. Numbers are up in virtually every sport. Football, for example, is approaching 80 kids in the program which is remarkable. And they have very few seniors. Next year we might very well be looking at three full football teams which very few 4A schools have. Volleyball always has three full teams, Cheer has a bigger squad than they have in the last decade. Boys soccer has two teams and are pushing to have a third team. Girls’ soccer, after not having a JV program last year, is able to play some JV games this year. Overall, tons of kids are having a great experience in Eagle Athletics.

Winter Athletics should be an exciting season this year. Coach Peterson has some outstanding wrestlers returning. Coach Brown with swimming brings back some of his key swimmers, and dance will be operating year two under Coach Bree Hughes. Girls’ basketball was able to make a tremendous hire with coach Tal Wold coming aboard. He was the boys coach here at Stayton years ago and returns now as the girls coach with state titles at Silverton on his resume. The girls are lucky to have such a quality coach! Coach Muhic for boys’ basketball took an assistant position at Willamette University, so the boys will have a new head coach this year.

Spring Sports will bring lots of activities and events. Baseball, softball, track, two golf teams, and two tennis teams will keep kids active! Spring will also see the start of the Ty Hart Memorial Fitness Center going up. This incredible Fitness Center will be located behind the main gym between the gym and the stadium entrance. With all of the recent upgrades in facilities we have seen here at Stayton High School the past few years, the Fitness Center will be the cherry on top! We are excited to see what this will look like including a new training room with plenty of workout room for our athletes. Watch for updates on the booster Facebook page and the North Santiam website. We are shooting for a fall 2024 opening date. It is going to be awesome!

Go Eagles!
